SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Lee Philip is currently a 3rd year double bass fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL.  Formerly a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, he has performed with the Grand Rapids, Singapore, and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Chicago Chamber musicians.  Music first became a passion for him at age 15 during a District Orchestra Festival where he was inspired by the music of Barber and Copland.  Lee went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins Univeristy and his Masters degree at Northwestern University, and he has spent summers at Tanglewood, the Sarasota Music Festival, and the Pacific Music Festival.  As a soloist, he performed Bottesini’s Concerto no. 2 with the York Symphony Orchestra on the Karr-Koussevitzky double bass on loan from the International Society of Bassists.  His major teachers include Paul Johnson, John Hood, and Peter Lloyd.
