Voluntary testing has been a convenient way to get certainty and protect others. Because the insidious thing about this virus is that you don't have to have any symptoms yourself, but you can transmit it to others. With each person found to be infected with corona during the voluntary tests, another chain of transmission was stopped. Admittedly, wastage is high and laboratory capacities are finite.
And so, in times of high infection rates, there will soon be no more room for voluntary testing. If everything goes according to plan, the priority will be to test at-risk groups, direct contacts of infected persons, patients and medical personnel – and to obtain results as quickly as possible.
If it is then possible to make this information available electronically from the laboratory across the board, this also relieves the health authorities of many inquiries – and some of those tested were able to sleep a little more peacefully.
